GREASE The Musical, 14th -16th February 2023
The students of Brookfield Community School have done it again! They have demonstrated incredible talent, passion and energy which has culminated in a show to equal any professional performance.
Our students have been required to commit so much time to this show and have exhibited perseverance beyond compare. Over 100 performers have worked tirelessly for 6 months; memorising over 2 hours of script and choreography.
Principal performers were required to attend extra singing lessons with our fantastic singing teacher, Effie, along with additional acting workshops every week. Dancers also attended supplementary sessions and were called upon to push themselves in more technically difficult routines than previously attempted.
The band have had to learn over 15 new musical numbers, with some musicians having never been in a performance before. They have shown grit and determination: some musical breaks were long and strenuous!
The technical team have mastered over 70 lighting cues; plotting each one individually over hours of extra time. The sound crew have learnt how to work with new equipment (purchased by our BPFA) and have had to learn over 100 sound cues, along with controlling the headsets of 17 different microphones!! Their professionalism and sheer technical knowledge is astounding.
The props team have over 50 props to set and cue every night, along with moving scenery throughout 4 live productions. They have had to show complete focus and concentration for hours every day.
The team work, creative thinking, resilience, grit and passion of these young people - week in and week out - is the true reflection of the power of the arts.
Over the past 6 months new friendships have formed, new skills have been acquired, and young people have been inherently changed forever. The memories of school productions remain with us beyond our school years; this was evident in the huge community response to the show from people who were in the 1995, 2003 and 2010 Brookfield productions. People can still quote lines and remember sections of choreography. They can recall funny moments, poignant moments and difficult moments from the process too.
School productions shape us. They enable us to foster more resilience and confidence than anyone can ever understand unless you are there to witness it.
School productions are fun, but they are also hard, exceptionally hard! They are an incredibly rewarding part of school life that wouldn't be possible without dedicated staff who value these experiences and go above and beyond to ensure that they happen. It truly is a team effort in every sense.
